In our latest ‘Five mins with…’ series we meet Rory Mckay, Premier Asset Finance’s, Asset Finance Manager. Rory gave us an insight to who he is and why he enjoys his role here at Premier Asset Finance so much.

Can you tell us a bit about your career background to date?

I started with NWS Bank (re-named to Capital bank) in 1994, in the collection/arrears department and it was a gradual change in roles which led me to the sales side. My first Asset Finance sales role was with Bank of Scotland  in the internal asset finance team which was around 1997 and eventually, I got my first role out on the road two years later. I’ve been in Asset Finance ever since.

I worked with Kevin Davidson during my time with Bank of Scotland. When Premier Asset Finance was formed in 2008, I had no hesitation to join and it’s a decision that I have been grateful for ever since.

What attracted you to the asset finance sector?

I really love the variety within the industry and that you deal with many different people on a day to day basis, all asset finance requirements are unique to that business and who you are dealing with at the time. I enjoy meeting clients face to face and learning about their business and plans for the future.

No day is the same which makes my role really diverse and interesting.

What is your main focus at Premier Asset Finance and what do you enjoy about the role?

Without doubt, customer service. I treat all our customers individually and with total commitment and an eagerness to help.

I have customers that I’e dealt with for nearly 20 years which follows on to what I enjoy. I’ve built up several long term connections and with these interactions, you form personal relationships and don’t just talk about finance but almost anything, which is to me just as important.

What’s the most interesting deal you have worked on?

I wouldn’t say any particular deal however, I have worked on several restructure/refinance deals in the past, wherewe have consolidated numerous agreements into the one agreement.

This has reduced outgoings, made the running of the customer business banking account easier to manage and generated cash-flow for other business related requirements.

These can be time consuming as you can be dealing with dozens of individual agreements at once, but interesting at the same time.

Thank you for taking the time today to participate in this interview. Before we go, we’d love to know have you got any hidden talents or party tricks?

It’s not a hidden talent but quite the opposite. My clear un-hidden talent is that I cannot build up flat pack furniture, despite many efforts I just cannot follow the instructions and eventually my wife (Angela) takes over and gets it done… with ease!
