In our latest ‘Five mins with…’ series we meet Steve Toshack, Premier Asset Finance’s, Asset Finance Manager. Steve had a chat with us about the highlights of his role and what he gets up to outside of the office!
What attracted you to the asset finance sector?
I actually fell into it having been involved in the industry where I worked in training and recruitment. My oldest friend is a recruitment consultant and I remember that as six year old kids, we used to play “pretend banks”. He asked me if I’d ever considered working for a bank, I jumped at the chance and joined Bank of Scotland in Asset Finance!
What is your main focus at Premier Asset Finance and what do you enjoy about the role?
I love building relationships with customers. Some of my customers have become very good friends over the years. I enjoy having fun and a laugh, to me it’s an important part of the job and helps build trust and loyalty.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Most of my time outside of work is spent with my children…I’m a glorified taxi driver! This and meeting up with friends for food and drinks and following all my favourite football teams, also takes up a lot of my time.
What advice would you give to somebody looking to enter the sector?
Don’t! This industry isn’t big enough for the two of us…kidding! Work hard, get out and become familiar with as many businesses as you can. Visiting the industrial estates and networking with people doesn’t work for everyone but it’s great for companies to realise we are real people and aren’t just stuck at the end of a phone.
Thank you for taking the time today. Before we go, we’d love to know have you got any hidden talents or party tricks?
Well I have a strange face where I can pull all sorts of obscure faces, you have to see it to believe it. I can also mimic the bagpipes by holding my nose and pressing on my Adam's apple…you asked!
